James Martin writes: "This painting is about the very moment of the return of life. It arose from meditating on the story as told in Mark's gospel, chapter 5. An image came to me of the moment the little girl opens her eyes, the first thing she sees being the face of Jesus, commanding, yet loving. Her body is pale and still, her parents in their grief, as yet unaware of the enormity of what is happening."
