'This is from a series of paintings based on the life of Christ as if he was born today. Translating the story into the modern context almost makes the power of the story stronger, something we can relate to.This poor man Joseph has his girlfriend pregnant.What is he to do? Like many dramatic family situations, the scene takes place in the kitchen. He breaks down and cries. I have titled the piece “Joseph wept” because it echoes the shortest verse in the bible “Jesus wept”. I wanted the dual aspect that Jesus knows our situations, he understands. He is with Joseph – a profound reality with Mary being pregnant with Jesus. A light coming down from the window in the background, is the presence of God when times are tough.This is a picture of hope.’'
