Keith Getty and Stuart Townend have been at the forefront of a renaissance in hymn writing. The Apostles Creed is a collection of twelve fresh contemporary performances of their songs by a host of talented Christian artists drawn together by Kingsway Music and under the direction of producer John Hartley.
Christine Dente opens proceedings with a version of Let The Earth Resound closely followed by Susan Ashton’s rendition of In Christ Alone. Both tracks retain their Irish/Celtic feel and revel in country-tinged vocals as delivered by Dente and Ashton. Sara Sadler brings a slightly more up-tempo pop arrangement to Jesus Is Lord whilst Joy Has Dawned finds vocalist Steve Garrett almost in Billy Bragg mode. Christine Dente returns on My Heart Is Filled with its B3 soaked r ‘n’ b flavour before JP enters with the country/folk See What A Morning.
The excellent Getty/Townend hymn You’re The Word Of God The Father gains a pop/rock feel which ably serves the Vineyard’s Brenton Brown before giving way to Merciful God and the delicate country vocal of Tammy Trent.
Mrs Getty, Kristyn, makes a welcome appearance on the Celtic flavoured Holy Spirit in advance of Survivor’s (Records) Tim Hughes who adds his vocal talents to the mix on the poptastic O Church Arise. Oh To See The Dawn (The Power Of The Cross) will bless many Easter celebrations for years to come and heralds the return of JP amidst it’s La’s style arrangement before Derri Daugherty draws the album to a close with Lord We Wait.
Producer John Hartley has done a fantastic job of taking the songs of Keith Getty and Stuart Townend in a new direction yet retaining their obvious power and craftsmanship on this "The Apostles Creed: The songs of Stuart Townend and Keith Getty”.
